Fall/Winter 2012/2013 Trends

Fall is well upon us, and winter is coming fast. If you kept up with Fashion Week this year, you'd have an in on some of the trends. If you didn't, well, we're here to fill you in!

This fall/winter classic & sexy are the big components. Lots of brown, taupe, winter whites, grey, navy blue. Gold, red, and vivid blue. Some designers put in softer pops of color with some pastels, and of course, black. Black is timeless and always has a place in fashion.

Trend #1: Military

Vintage how-to: When you're looking for military inspired vintage pieces, look for jackets with gold buttons, button detailing, high necks, and jackets that are belted. Wool peacoats, short and long, in navy blue, olive green, and black are perfect choices. Blazers with button detailing are easy to make your centerpiece. Pair with slim fitting pants, leggings, and some riding boots for a polished military look.

Trend #2: Gothic

Vintage how-to: Black leather, velvet & lace. The gothic trend is easy to achieve with vintage clothing. Long velvet gowns & jackets. Long black gloves. Detailing with crosses (a la Versace.) Add in some black lace for a sweet yet sexy & dark look.

Trend #3: Velvet

Vintage how-to: Dark & sultry. Velvet is big this fall/winter and can be worn for day or evening. This trend is great because you can wear your velvet pieces for your day look and easily turn it into evening wear by switching up you accessories. A velvet blazer over a simple shirt with jeans, leggings, or cigarette pants for daytime, switch it up with a lacy camisole, a skirt, and stockings with heels for night time.

Trend #4: Oversized (Also, knits. Knits are a big trend this fall/winter)

Vintage how-to: I love this trend. What's better than throwing on a soft, cozy oversized sweater when it's cold out? If you're going for this trend, look for oversized knit sweaters, cardigans, ans jackets. Oversized pants can add a lot of bulk where you don't want it. You can pair oversized tops with slim-fitting or skinny jeans, leggings, or a skirt and tights for a pulled together look.

Trend #4: Peplum

Vintage how-to: Peplums have been in fashion this summer, but with the fall/winter you want to switch your bright colors for darker, classier looks. Cocktail dresses and jackets. Peplum dresses can go from business casual to evening wear. Dress down a peplum jacket with skinny jeans, tapered trousers, and flats or boots.
